A couple months ago when I brought up the idea of hosting another Group Break (aka Community Break) on the ol’ blog, I didn’t get a whole lot of feedback.
Honestly, that’s okay. Because even though only 4 people commented on what they’d like to have broken, it seemed as if a consensus was already made. Everyone was interested in stuff from the early 2000s and everyone was interested in Fleer products.
Works for me! I even have our first box already.
2002 Fleer Authentix. The box should include 3 relic or autographed cards although according to the odds, it’s likely to be 3 relics. The autos fall 1:134 packs! This box also features Parallel cards numbered to 250 and 150, as well as a couple insert sets (Power Alley, 2 per box and Ballpark Classics, 1 per box).
I didn’t really mean to buy this box. I put in a minimum bid in the hopes of gathering data if nothing else, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if I won. Well, it turns out I was not disappointed.
That’s one box. I’d like to get one from each year from 2000-2005, but I’m open if another 2002 really strikes your collective fancies since 2001 will be Pujols/Ichiro priced. Since this covers 2002, we still need a couple more. I’m willing to scour ebay, but as a point of reference, here are the boxes for each year I was able to find available at online retailers. All boxes are assumed to be Hobby unless otherwise noted.

The majority of these were found at Charm City Cards, so if you want to look at descriptions and prices, that would be the place to read up. I’m asking anyone that may potentially be interested to pick between 1-3 boxes for each year. Then from your comments, I’ll determine what to pick up based on popularity and price. I’m okay with buying a high priced box if it’s popular, but I’ll want to counter that with cheaper boxes for the other years. After all, I want slots to be affordable. If it affects your box-picking decisions one way or another, I’ll assume this break would be happening in March. Oh, and I’ll also try to find things cheaper on ebay first.
So, what do you guys think? Still interested? I know I am!
I am definately interested and for me any of those boxes would work because I was not active during that period.
The Real Person!

I’m with Benny. Though I did buy a few packs of 2001 and 2003 Topps, I’m throwing all my votes behind Avant and Platinum. I loved the first Platinum set and wanted to pull a patch card from a rack pack so bad. But they were (and are) insanely expensive.
I’m interested and I love the time period of the cards. I also like that there is some head’s up before you start the break. Gives me time to get the cash together.
I wanna play and I don’t even care what you buy! I busted a lot of product from 98-02, but I don’t have most of it anymore.
[…] Future Group/Community Break Follow-Up […]
I too would probably be on board. I love that year of Authentix. I like the mid to late 90’s stuff. Lots of good Braves, lots of different choices that won’t bankrupt you either.
Splendid Splinters has always intrigued me as I only have a few base cards. I’m up to just about any of the other boxes as long as the cost is reasonable.
I’m interested as long as there’s a chance of me getting Cardinals cards out of it. 2000-2004 is definitely an underrepresented era in my collection.
