Topps Community Break Box #11: 2005 Topps Turkey Red

All good things must come to an end.  Let’s hope this good thing ends with a great box of cards.

If you've ever wanted to cut Barry Bonds' head, the seal on this box is your chance

It’s worth mentioning each and every time, all of these boxes are courtesy of our good friends and Community Break Sponsor: BASEBALL CARD EXCHANGE

Thanks once again to our break sponsor. We’ll do it again sometime

It all comes down to this.  Also, wanted to let everyone know that when I said I’d have the cards shipped out this past week, I actually meant that this coming week.  Sure, I didn’t know I meant that at the time, but evidently I did.

First I’d like to apologize to Brian at Play at the Plate.  I mentioned in the video that the “Play at the Plate” checklist card would be going to him.  I looked it up to be safe and the card features Javy Lopez who played for the Orioles in 2004 & 2005, so this will be heading off in Baltimore’s stack.  Didn’t mean to get the hopes up.

black borders 1:20 packs so we beat the odds.

Hopefully the black Kinsler will ease the pain a little.  Philly came away with a nice parallel haul with a black and white.  The Sosa red is a no-name SP parallel, evidently.

More of the reds

We’re not done yet.

I think the purple sky is an SP too. Too much to keep track of.

And here are the last of the parallels.  Oakland did really well. If anyone’s interested, we’ll work something out eventually.  The box didn’t just have colored border cards, you know.  There’s also a box topper and a couple of hits to contend with here.

Looks just like him

The last thing I expected to see was a blanket in my box of cards.  Still, I don’t mind. I think it looks really cool and you don’t have to worry about corner damage that can come along with the box toppers rattling around.

Surprise!

Congratulations to Hobb’s Knights on the Orioles hit (and the Sosa SP variation)! I’m not going to congratulate Colbey for the Chipper, because he’s heard that enough already this break.

For our last head count, I’m including the fabric box topper as an insert since it isn’t a “hit” in the traditional sense.  The SPs and SP parallels aren’t easily identifiable, and I don’t really have the time to sift through the checklist, so they’re going in the base section.  I know from the little research I did that the aforementioned Sosa is an SP parallel and the Bonds base card with him in a gray jersey is an SP.  Then I gave up.  Overall, this was the most even spread amongst the teams I’ve seen.

I hope everyone had as much fun watching and following along as I did opening it all.  I’m sorry things didn’t go so well for some of you, but unfortunately that tends to happen in these things.  Really, I think the moral of the story is if you want to do well in a Community Gum break, pick the Braves and Yankees.  And I guess the Angels.  Who knew?

Thank you to all!  We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

  • jon – thanks for the most excellent group break. it was lots of fun, and i’m down and ready for the next one. appreciate all your hard work to make it a success.

  • Yes Jon, Thank you very much ! I’ve done a couple, I know these things are a lot of work. I’ll keep my eye on Com. Gum and see what I can do for you also !

  • Play at the Plate

Thanks Jon! You guys do awesome group breaks and although I was absolutely heartbroken over the play at the plate card (just kidding) the Kinsler black did make up for it (not kidding, that was nice).

I was yucking it up, but not because I knew anything. When you said the White Frank Thomas…that was funny.

What happened with the Josh Gibson? Did you random that one? If not, I’m very interested in that one.
