After work today I went out to the suburbs to meet a good friend for dinner. While I was waiting for him to drive in from his meeting, I decided to stop by a nearby Target. What I was looking for was the Panini NBA sticker album, since I intend on consuming that heavily.

More Exclusive Goodness!
72 Cards for $10, including a Diamond Giveaway and an Exclusive Ruby Red Insert, which I’ve never heard of. By the way, I also saw a blister-like pack containing something like 3 12 card packs and a code card (which I could read most of by flipping it over) for about the same price, maybe $8. I hadn’t seen that before either. I didn’t see any mention of an exclusive with those however.
I guess this is where I should mention that we have found Topps in Chicago finally. We’ll have a more intense round-up in a little bit, but I wanted to break this exclusive story now!

Inside the box was a cellophane wrapped brick of the 72 card. The ToppsTown card is at the bottom, but most of the inserts appear to be in the middle. Not all inserts are guaranteed. Golds fall 1:3, Lost Cards are 1:2, Vintage Reproductions 1:2, History of Topps 1:3. Aside from that, if the insert isn’t listed there, it should be in every pack (including the anniversary shiny). I got this along with a bunch of normal set cards.

That’s a 1:3 pack Gold (and a Cub to boot!), and a 1:20 pack Lost Card original back. I also got the Maddux insert (which I actually already had, so this is for trade), and 2 Ruths. And I avoided History of Topps! But you don’t care about that. You want to see the new exclusive.

You know, I was expecting more shiny what with it being called “Ruby” and all. I was hoping for a Red version of the Diamond shiny stuff. Not necessarily a parallel set, but same technology on the cards. Still, not bad. I see one of these went for $20 on Ebay. Before I post mine on there, is it safe to assume someone might want to trade for it? I’ll accept Maddux, Dempster, Marmol, Frank Thomas, Gwynn Sr. and K. Wood cards.
I wonder if I should check Wal-Mart to see if they have something like this in Blue… Sapphire Exclusives perhaps? Regardless, even without the special inserts, these boxes seem like a pretty decent value. And now you’ve seen it.
Yes, Wally World has their “blue” version. Saw it this morning, but bought a rack pack instead.
I’m hoping to buy a Target blaster this weekend, looking for Target throwback Phillies cards, trying for a 2011 trifecta, Regular Base, Bedazzled Base, and Throwback Base for the Phillies in the set.
Wow, that’s a lot of Yankee in that box. The one thing I’ve wondered is: are these replacing the cereal boxes from the last couple of years? If so, it’s a better deal. Cereal boxes had 55 cards plus a refractor for the same price.
I belive I read some where that Toys R Us also had purple versions of the exclusives as well. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet though.
I think the purple inserts at TRU are replacements for the Red Diamond and Blue Diamond. But maybe there’s an Amethyst version of these as well!
Target got the better of the exclusive cards IMO. This Ruby design is far better than Walmart’s Blue Sapphire. Do you have a checklist of these Ruby cards?
I bought the Wal-Mart version. It was part of my last purchase of Series 1 for the year.
