Recent Royals: 2006 Bowman Heritage Alex Gordon

I have very few card collections given my limited resources and space, but I did decide some time ago to begin collecting on-card Royals autographs. It’s been a blast so far trying to track these things down and this is the latest addition to my collection. To view the cards currently in the collection, take a look at the Gallery. If you have any on-card Royals autos- especially one you don’t see in that gallery there- chances are I need them so don’t hesitate to drop me a line!

Don't call it a comeback, he's been teetering on the minors for years.

Well if it isn’t Mr. AAA himself! A few months into the season, I saw someone selling this card at a show for $36. I got it for $8 shipped. Much ink has been spilled on Alex Gordon’s future and, while a switch to left field and full recovery from some injuries offer a glimmer of hope, it’s hard to imagine him bouncing back to 2nd pick status after such a precipitous fall from grace. The good new is, hey, you’re on the Royals! Who else are they putting in left field?!

So far in spring training, almost everyone is hitting better than him, including Eric Hosmer, who will probably be on the major league team this season, and Mike Moustakas, who will definitely be on the major league team this season. There’s a lot of young talent coming up in the Royals system and there’s simply not enough room to hang on to a guy who hasn’t hacked it in the majors- especially when that guy is arbitration eligible next year. I hope Alex puts it together this year and becomes the player the Royals drafted. However, in terms of my collection (this is my second Gordon auto), I don’t imagine we’ll see him on cards in a Royals uniform after this season. Though, in all honesty, how much is a player like Gordon worth in arbitration? I’d love to be at that hearing.

At any rate, I like the 2006 Bowman Heritage auto set. Mainly because I’m a sucker for minimalist designs on on-card autos. Carlos Febles could have signed this thing and I’d pay $6 for it.

Very nice. I’ve been surprised the Gordon autos are as low as they are.

I like the look of Bowman Heritage. The Bowman ’48 basketball cards are nice, too.
