Upper Deck Community Break Box #8: 2004 Upper Deck Sweet Spot

This is it.  The end of an era. Or at least a group break.

Before we get into it, I’ll let you all know that I’ll be working on packaging and shipping out the cards this week.  It can be something of an involved process, but you can be assured I pack things well.  I’ll post a quick something once everyone’s cards have been placed in the mail.  I think paypal will be letting you know I’m shipping as well, if I’m able to print a label from your payment.

Will the spot be sweet or sour?

It’s worth mentioning each and every time, all of these boxes are courtesy of our good friends and Community Break Sponsor: BASEBALL CARD EXCHANGE

Huge, huge thanks to Baseball Card Exchange. Expect to see this banner next time around.

It’s kind of sad to think we’ve come to the end of these videos.

I’m sure you’re all excited to see the scans.  After an extra day’s wait, why delay things any longer, right?

color coordinated for your pleasure

I know that these high-end things don’t typically focus on the base cards, but in 2004, companies were still in a transitional phase.  You can tell from how nice these vertical sunrise cards look that Upper Deck still put time and effort into them.  It’s also a pretty big set with a couple SP’d areas.

numbered cards

My lack of knowledge got the best of me in the video once again.  The Sweet Beginnings (#/799) and the Sweet Lineups (#/399) are actually short printed subsets.  Good luck collecting the whole set at that rate.  The Delmon Young (#/99) is considered the “Wood” parallel, although it looks gold to me.  It’s also available for trade since the Rays were unclaimed and I have no use for it.

hit me!

The jersey and bat hits came out of the gate very quickly.    Congratulations to Field Level View on the Beltran and to Joe Average Collector for coming out of nowhere to grab a second hit in the last two boxes.  Very cool looking cards to be sure.

The last hit ended up being the only going to an unclaimed team.  Despite what you may think of the player selection of Geoff Jenkins, I really, really like the Sweet Spot autographs.  It was fantastic to have the opportunity to personally pull one out of a pack.  I just may try to do it again sometime.

Still, the Jenkins is for trade should anyone be as intrigued by the faux-baseball autographs as I am.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the break and took the time to come by and check out the results.  This blog has been sporadically updated for quite some time now.  It felt good to get these 8 posts up relatively quickly.  Here’s hoping that momentum will continue, and hoping that you’ll join us.
