So, just like last year, I’ve fallen behind on these posts. Also, like last year, I’m becoming disillusioned with the Cubs in the middle of the year due to a player with an alleged domestic abuse in his history. Maybe I’ll talk about that more later, but even though I had started to collect Addison Russell (along with most of the championship roster), his inclusion is indefinitely suspended.
Well, at least the Cubs are doing well overall. Oh, wait. They’re not. Due to what some might call parity in the NL Central I’m calling some lackluster play. Only 5 wins in this batch, and I think we already know that it doesn’t exactly get better.
Strikeout #26
May 6, 1992 – Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs
The sixth strikeout of seven came in the 6th inning with the score knotted up at 4. Ed Taubensee went down swinging to start the 1-2-3 inning. The Cubs would take the lead in the bottom of the inning and never look back.
Strikeout #36
May 16, 1992 – Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants
Maddux kept a one strikeout per inning ratio going by getting the last two batters of the inning. Will Clark swung and missed to end the third. Greg wasn’t done there.
Strikeout #37
May 16, 1992 – Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants
He wasn’t done, because he started the next inning by throwing one past Kevin Bass. All told, he would end with 9 strikeouts over 7 innings in a losing effort.
Strikeout #50
May 27, 1992 – San Francisco Giants at Chicago Cubs
Will Clark makes his second appearance in the blog post. It’s another swing and a miss in another Giants win (they can’t all be happy endings).
Strikeout #51
May 27, 1992 – San Francisco Giants at Chicago Cubs
To end the day, we stay in the same game with a second set of back-to-back cards. The next Giants victim was Jim McNamara in the 4th, but by that time it was too late for the Cubs. Hopefully that doesn’t hold true for this year’s team.
