’96 & Hits Community Break Box #3: 1996 Fleer Baseball Hobby

Hey, I made it before the end of the day.  With such a long video upload and more scans than the previous two combined, I wasn’t sure.  Honestly, today’s box was the impetus for the entire break.  Diehard followers may remember that I busted open a box of 1997 Fleer way back in the day.  While that box was fun, this was the product I was actually thinking of at the time.

Cal is pumped

Special Hobby only inserts, an insert in every pack and a glossy parallel in every pack as well.  36 packs means we should be spreading the wealth.

Okay, I don’t know why, but my camera decided to split the video up into two separate files.  I don’t think that we missed any cards, but after 23 minutes (yup, 23 – enjoy!) it started a new file to finish it up.

Okay. Now that that’s out of the way, how about some scans?

Glossy & Shiny

I’m only showing the parallels for teams that were claimed.  I don’t think these are in any specific order.

More of these deals

As expected, some not so great players, but Sandy Alomar, Dave Winfield, and Wade Boggs ain’t bad, right? All told, 20 of the 36 Tiffany went to participants, a much better ratio than I expected.

Quite the variety

There are the last two and the start of the inserts.  Piazza slipped away a little bit.  The Road Warriors look really nice.  They have a slight glitter effect that makes the asphalt stand out.

I swear the bottom right is a full card. It's just shiny.

We got a couple doubles in the Prospect inserts, which is a shame.  The Zone insert looks cool and I think it’s possibly a 1:90 pack insert.  Great pickup for Junior Junkie!

More doubles not pictured

Lastly, we have some Post-Season Glory which had several dupes.  The two on the right are the Hobby Only Team Leader insert.  Since there are 28 teams, it can be tough to land your guy.  I’m glad that two of them are going to all of you.

And there you have it.  All the cards shown above (and the unshown doubles) are part of the Insert/Parallel count.  The regular cards turned out to be very close to dead-even distribution, with most teams landing about 11 or 12 cards.

Next up: The Main Event.  Hit City!  Stay tuned.
