I was reading some blogs last night and came across a post about 2010 Topps Series 2 and the Cards Your Mom Threw Out set and came across a scan of this famous little beauty
You may be thinking to yourself, why would my moms throw that away? I’ll tell you why. It’s a fake!
I’m not talking about it being a reprint. No, I’m telling you it’s a reprint of a fake. How can I tell? Well, the real NNOF would be missing sections of the black borders, and this one does not. Here’s an example of what it should look like.
See the yellow and blue sections missing the black borders? Also the red along the left. His arm’s discolored.
If Topps were smart and knew their own products, they would have reflected this in their insert set. Instead, we get a reprint of a fake that someone created in their home and sold to an unknowing sap for hundreds of dollars.
Trust your mothers; they know best.
I’m forever puzzled by how little Topps knows about their cards. They seem to have a pretty good idea. But attention to detail and sheer appreciation of the cards is lacking.
The link Jon sent me to the forum thread about the 1990 errors was the most fascinating baseball card-related read I’ve ever experienced. Highly recommended reading!
