Recent Royals: 2007 Bowman Chrome Luke Hochevar Refractor

I have very few card collections given my limited resources and space, but I did decide some time ago to begin collecting on-card Royals autographs. It’s been a blast so far trying to track these things down and this is the latest addition to my collection. To view the cards currently in the collection, take a look at the Gallery or the other posts in this series. I’m working on getting a legit want list together on my trade page but, in the meantime, if you have any on-card Royals autos that it looks like I don’t have, don’t hesitate to drop me a line!

Too bad his fastball is straighter than his signature! Zing!

So let’s check in on Luke. When we last took a look at his stats (back when I snagged a 2007 Masterpieces auto), he was tearing it up. Beating almost all of his previous career numbers on a path to greatness.

As you might have expected, he’s slowed down to be on track to a 2011 season very similar to that of 2010. There are two differences I’d like to point out, though.

1. He’s healthy. He’s made 12 starts so far this year (tied with for league leader). He’s pitched 78 innings which is 3/4 of all the innings he pitched in the majors last year.

2. His WHIP is still on pace for a career showing at 1.2.

Now, these two things alone do not a #1 starter make. But they’re good signs. Of course, the high HR/9 and low SO/9 aren’t helping my case here. Point is, you can get his RC refractor auto for about $6 now. I probably overpaid.
