So Much Kila.

I have very few card collections given my limited resources and space, but I did decide some time ago to begin collecting on-card Royals autographs. It’s been a blast so far trying to track these things down and this is the latest addition to my collection. To view the cards currently in the collection, take a look at the Gallery or the other posts in this series. I’m working on getting a legit want list together on my trade page but, in the meantime, if you have any on-card Royals autos that it looks like I don’t have, don’t hesitate to drop me a line!

U is for "Ugh."

The time between the last Kila Ka’aihue auto I posted (another couple of crap manupatches back in June) and now must feel like a lifetime to Kila. He was demoted to AAA after batting below the Mendoza line as the starting 1B. And, even though he’s doing pretty well for the Storm Chasers now, His starting job is all but gone, considering superprospect Eric Hosmer is manning first base for the foreseeable future and star Billy Butler has the DH gig locked up.

A is also for "Ugh."

But Kila isn’t a bad player at all- he’s just having trouble putting it together in the majors. I think a switch to an NL team would be great for him- maybe even the Cubs could use him as a backup to Carlos Pena (assuming they resign him at a more reasonable rate) since they have no viable 1B option in their farm system. Just the ramblings of a co-Royals and -Cubs fan there, but it seems like there might be a match there. Hey, Royals- want James Russell?

Now this is more like it!

No matter how eager I am to unload those manupatch autos, I sure can’t complain about about these true on-card beauties. I wrote a little thing about the Billy Buckner Goudey auto I have as well. Something about the simplicity works really well on these- makes it look in-person-at-a-game which still looking official. Love these autos. Would love to put together a set but I’m sure there’s something in at least one of the three years they made these that would make that an impossibility. Let me look. Oh, a Jeter and a Sandberg? Yep, I’m out.

Geting warmer...

At least I’ll have my soon-to-be-complete 2010 Topps Chrome Kila Rainbow to look forward to since I have the base already and the…

We've struck Hawaiian gold!

Gold is right here! These were selling for $50 when he had a starting job in the majors. I got this one for $20. In fact, these have gone low enough that getting the red may not be out of range just for the sage of rainbow-ocity. I’ll keep you posted of course.

For some reason, I always end up show of the plain old refractor when going for a rainbow. Maybe it’s because they’re kind of popular or maybe it’s because they looks so much like the base (especially in scans and even more specially in 2010 Topps Chrome). No matter- it will be mine eventually and when I’ve got a full bore rainbow, I’ll try to make an epic post about it.

In the meantime, please trade me for the manupatches I have since I don’t collect them anymore. Maybe my buddy over at Manupatches and Chrome Scratches is interested… please?

  • Ah man, I’d love to trade for them, but my trading material has all but dried up. Unless you want a 500-count box of Royals doubles, it may be a while til I can rustle up something to send your way. I started my new job this week, which means I’ll be getting a paycheck for the first time in a handful of months, which hopefully means I’ll be buying some product, which hopefully means I’ll have some trade material later this year.
Anyway, enough about me. Just wanted you to know that I still have my eyes on the Kila manus.
