Community Break Box #3: 2002 Fleer Authentix

Sorry about the lack of posts yesterday.  I didn’t have time on Sunday to pre-load a Monday post and Monday was right out.  Lucky for you all, my car need some work done, so I’m taking off tomorrow and I may be able to get that Hockey contest going then.  Anyway, I know the people have started chanting in a near revolutionary manner for more more more, so how about we keep things going with another Community Break video.  This time we’re looking at the 2002 Fleer Authentix box

How’d we do?
We’re back to ExtraHit-ville, and again, autos a plenty when there should be none!  The Autographed Authentix Ripped fall at 1:134 packs.  We got 2 in the same box.  I’m glad I accidentally won this sucker on ebay.  The only downside is that 2 of the 4 hits were Chicago, so there wasn’t a lot of wealth spread around.  Enough yappin’, here’s the purdy pictures.

I almost completely missed that Torii Hunter parallel

I wondered out loud if the tickets on the cards were their actual MLB debut dates.  I looked up Junge on wikipedia and he appeared in September of 2002, so there goes that theory.  Ah well.  It’s a nice concept, but it would have been better if it actually featured rookie debuts.

The Power Alley insert makes no sense to me.

These are the non-ticket inserts.  We should have found another Power Alley, according to the odds, but if I have to choose between that and an extra auto, I think I’ll choose the auto.  No one claimed the Brewers, so the Yount is for trade.  Speaking of those autos.

Ripped for your pleasure

Well, the Reds are making out like bandits so far.  So, are the unclaimed White Sox.  Who likes Maggs?  For that matter, who likes Prior?  Both are quite available.  Something tells me that Colbey ain’t giving up that Jones jersey, though.  One last point of interest, the tickets for the jersey cards are identical in look and Sec/Row/Seat #.  So, I guess they mimicked some real tickets and then made up something to work as a standard in other instances.  Kind of weird.

I was completely wrong about the whole interchangeable ticket stub thing.  I guess they did that in other years.  Oh well.  Hopefully everyone is still happy enough with their cards and the box in general.  I know I’m digging the beveled borders, and the continuation of the good luck streak.  We’re just under half way.  Can the streak really keep going to the very end?  Will any other teams get any hits besides the Reds?  Stay Tuned.  The answer is just around the corner.

  • I really like the base design of this set, I think the borders actually look quite nice. Not a big fan of the design of the relic cards, a little bit too much going on IMO.

Another great box, though, keep the mojo rollin

  • I bought a ton of this stuff when it was new. I love the relics and I loved Andruw during his Braves days. I’m loving this break so far. Keep it up!

  • No love for Ichiro,

I’m also lovin this break so far. This particular set, not so much, but I’m looking forward to what’s coming up.
