Weekly Trade Bait #7 – 2012 Topps Online Die Cut Thingies

I’m back with what I hope will be a regular series.  Did you miss the other installments?  Well, you can either scroll down a couple posts or check out the “Trade Bait” link at the top of the blog.  There’s a 1/1, some other low numbered parallels and a few good autos among others in there.

UPDATE:  ALL OF THESE DIE CUTS HAVE NOW BEEN CLAIMED AND TRADED.  THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME TURN THIS STROKE OF GOOD FORTUNE INTO A BUNCH OF CARDS FOR MY BINDERS!!

Okay, I’m relenting already. I’m turning this into a weekly (fingers crossed) series.  I don’t have the ability to keep this up twice a week.  I don’t always have the ability to post more than once a week in general.

This time around we have a whole bunch of those online code redemption only things.  Now, you may be wondering how I wound up with all of these, and that would be a fair thing to wonder.  No, I didn’t unlock all of these.  I didn’t unlock a one.  I didn’t enter a single code in the website.

So, I must have bought them, right?

Nope.

Actually, this was an experience with the Topps customer service.  You see, I did redeem quite a lot of the 2011 codes.  Enough to get the specially stamped anniversary set.

I waited a while to redeem the set and have it shipped to me, and I took even longer to actually open it.  My plan was to raid my player collection guys and trade the rest to the likes of you.  The problem was that once it was opened, I noticed that several of the cards were missing any type of foil and there was some weird debris on a lot of the cards that caused divots and marks.

I contacted customer service and was eventually told to send my set back to get a replacement.  That set never came, and they weren’t going to be able to give me another, so they worked out a few alternate options.  They offered a selection of boxes, but I wanted something sepcific to trade since that was the point of this.

That’s when they offered me a whole set of 100 die cuts.  I said yes, of course.  Well, they later changed and said they couldn’t send a whole set, but I wasn’t going to fight about that.  What they sent was still more than enough in terms of monetary comparisons and hopefully will work well in terms of trading.
