Having 7 straight days of trade bait means I’m slipping behind on this task again. We’re past the 150 game mark and the race is still tense as I write this. Hopefully there is a little more separation by the time this goes live.
For games 121-130, there was a small 3 game losing streak mixed in, but the Cubs won the other 7 in the batch. For the first time, I think, the players of the game were more often people I don’t collect, so there are a bunch of stand-ins.
 Canvas collection
Win #71 – Schwarber – This was the second straight 1-0 game. Not pretty, but it works. Hamels didn’t have too many Ks this time. Kyle was 1-2, with 2 walks and a solo homer to win.
Only in 2 years of Ginter I think
Win #72 – David Bote – Local legend Bote went 1-2, with 2 walks. His 2-run homer in the 5th give us the lead for good.
 Rookie Silver Foil version
Win #73 – Cole Hamels – The first Complete Game of the year for the Cubs, I believe. 1 run, 8 hits, 2 walks, 7 Ks over 114 pitches, and a pick off of Billy Hamilton. Solid.
 Golden rookie
Win #74 – Bote – Again with a walk-off homer! No one was on base this time, but in the bottom of the 10th, he came up big as he’s already become known to do.
 Holo version
Win #75 – Baez – We can’t forget about Baez. He went 2-3, 1 walk (a rarity), and got 3 RBIs (not a rarity) including a solo homer in the 5th and a 2-run single in the 7th.
 I think that’s higher now
Win #76 – Hendricks – Pitchers haven’t earned a lot of these honors, but this won’t be the last time you see Hendricks show up. On this game, he pitched 7 innings, gave up only 2 hits and 1 walk, had 5Ks, and no runs in a blowout.
 Love those winter clothes
Win #77 – Rizzo – To close it out, Anthony was 3-5, and had 2 RBI off of 2 doubles and a homer. Solid day all around.
Day 7 of 7 in another week long trade bait party. Keep coming back and claiming through comments on each post and we’ll finalize after day 7 is done.
Hey there! Take my cards! I have cards. You need cards.
What can you send my way? Take a look at this page right HERE. I’m willing to trade in your favor if it means getting stuff out of my house faster. Also, if you’re not sure if you have anything from my player specific lists, I’m also accepting any cards of just about all current Cubs players as an alternative, but odds are you’ll have plenty to work with!

The time has come to end this saga. I started showing off this trade in September 2017. Then work got in the way for a few months (part 2 went up in April), and I wanted to give air time to other trades along the way as well, but nearly exactly a year later the last chapter of this trade with Bill is finished.
And it’s great timing, too, because I just got ANOTHER package from Bill in the mail a few days ago! I promise it won’t take a year to get through that one (barring a coma or some other unforeseen event)! I’m also going to present it slightly differently, but you’ll see when that time comes. I have a couple other trades in the queue first.
As mentioned before, Bill doesn’t have a blog of his own, but he’s known as minibbcards on the Trading Card Database and his want lists are fantastic (and found here). If you have 2018 Ginter minis (or other years), make sure to give him a look as he’s a great guy and super easy to deal with!
 Iron your jersey
To begin the cleanup, let’s take a look at some cards of Zobrist, who has been one of the most reliable Cubs players this year. He may not be the flashiest, or the one with the most power, and he doesn’t hit in a spot in the lineup where he has a massive impact, but it’s noticeable and appreciated.
 A great picture I haven’t seen before
I doubt we’ll reach the World series this year. In fact, his former team here might get there. But I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if he pulled out another WS MVP….
 Logo spotted
The last Upper Deck baseball set in nearly a decade now. Every time I look at this set I’m reminded that they did some random “spot the difference” SPs with various rarities in there, but never announced what the differences were.
 Found that one too
Neither of these players fell into that category, but Chris Coghlan is one of the Ultra Rare variant guys. Per Baseballcardpedia – UD Logo flipped to upper-right, player in dugout moved left). I have neither version of the Coghlan.
 Nothing but logos here
Continuing on the Fowler train, we move forward one year to the non-Mike Trout series. Simpler times.
Run away from the sparkle variations in 2011 Topps
For those that also need help without looking at the backs, this is 2013 Bowman. Nice design, but as I’ve said many times before, it’s really hard to know which year is which. I’m happy to take all the Bowman stuff I don’t have already and sort it out when it arrives.
 Bring it!
2015 is a bit easier for me to identify, but I still have doubts. I have this issue with a lot of products, I guess. Kind of pathetic for a current collector when you think about it.
 (probably won’t be the) MVP!
Lastly, we’re sticking with 2015 Bowman, but this time it’s in the form of a Javier Baez rookie card. Now, obviously this was sent prior to what I guess could be called a breakout season, but few people care about Bowman rookies (only the prospects). I’m one of those few people when it comes to players I collect. Also, regardless of Javy’s production, I would certainly be grateful to receive this, as I was for all of these cards spread out over a year and eight posts!
I’m also grateful for all the cards Bill just sent to me, and I look forward to sharing those with you soon and continue thanking him for his wonderful trades!
You know, when you start a player collection or a team collection, you never really plan to actually finish it. Sets can be finished. Retro player collections can be finished. Modern stuff is nearly impossible.
Of course, it helps to impose some restrictions. That’s why I don’t collect anything that has a print run lower than 50. If that serial number is 49 or less, I don’t want it. I’ll keep it if someone sends it or it’s pulled from a pack, but my thinking is that there are probably at least 50 people in the US collecting any specific player (or their associated team) and so the competition is too much to be worthwhile. And obviously only one person can own the 1-of-1s.
Longtime readers have heard this all before, but I say it again to set up this next part. I collect Carlos Marmol and using that criteria I need 160 cards to have a complete collection. Progress over the past couple years has been slow, but at least no one has made new cards to add to that total. As part of an unspoken resolution, my goal was to try to make significant progress on that want list in particular. I’ve pretty much tapped out COMC (they have stuff I need, but priced way too high for my liking), and trades have slowed down since it’s mostly rarer stuff left. I haven’t tried some other avenues like TCDB or justcommons/cardbarrel yet, but my next stop was Sportlots.
I’ve sold cards on there for years and I have a lot of credit built up because I haven’t been cashing out and also I simply never bothered to buy. So, in April I went on a little buying spree and used Marmol as my main focus. I found sellers with decent shipping prices that had cards I needed and then bought a stack from them of my main six players.
When all was said and done, I was at 119/160, or 74.38%. My July autograph ebay win put me over the edge to exactly 75% complete. That’s pretty amazing. It’s crazy to think that just a few more cards will get me to 80%. Maybe I’ll get there later this year. We’ll see.
 Top of his game
A couple of these are not too exciting visually, but are for me. You can’t tell but this is the gold foil version, which is a thing that exists
 Sadly, his last All-Star game
This is also the gold foil. Not a fan of the subtle parallels, but at least it’s not a sparkle.
 Love this picture
I owned this at one point, then returned it to Topps with the rest of the giveaway set for quality control issues. They didn’t have anymore and sent me other stuff instead. So, I bought this copy for less than a quarter.
 Trying not to laugh
ToppsTown. Oh man, I forgot about that thing. These were everywhere and overabundant. This particular one is from Opening Day – the last version I needed.
 Cracked!
Some people still price these code cards as if there’s an active prize someone can win.
Not part of the code…or is it!
I even have most of the minis, which is an accomplishment in and of itself!
I like this black border better
And this was the last Ginter mini I needed for Marmol. Need an 2009 OPC one (not Tobacco sized) still.
 Bring it
Parallels are a big part of what’s still missing. I was hoping that maybe this would come in a trade but I guess not as many people bought those Wal-Mart blasters
 Fist pump for progress!
Here’s another Walmart blue. Checking the list, I need the 2010 Walmart black.
 Two times!
This collection is golden!
Oh, ok! One more fist pump!
With this huge benchmark down, I’m looking at the next possible one on my list and I think 50% of a Ryan Dempster collection is feasible. I’m at 210/506, which is 41.50%. It’s a fun thing to think about. If you want to help in my quest, take a look at my want list pages and I’m sure we can figure out a deal.
